We are families and individuals working to build an intentional community in Ukiah where we can enjoy private ownership along with community life.
We plan to create a collaborative neighborhood, where residents actively participate in the design and operation of the community. We are working with a local developer and are currently seeking land. We expect to build 25-35 units on 3-5 acres of land within biking/walking distance to downtown Ukiah, California. Because we are consciously committed to living as a community, the physical design we create will encourage both social contact and individual space. Private homes will contain all the features of conventional homes, and residents will also have access to common facilities such as gardens, playgrounds and a common house. As of May 2007 we have 9 member households: 14 adults and 4 kids. When we have land we’ll do more recruiting to get people involved. If you’re interested in being a part of this exciting project, please contact us!
We have a potluck and general meeting on the 1st Saturday of every month, regular social events, and ongoing committee meetings. We ask all interested parties to attend a social event or pre-meeting potluck before sitting in on a meeting. We are developing an introductory packet so you can get to know us, learn a little about how our community works, and get caught up on our previous decisions. You are welcome to join our yahoo group where we send regular updates. Please go to the following site and click on “join this group!” http://groups.yahoo.com/group/UkiahValleyCohousing/
